THE family of a York schoolboy battling cancer in Germany have received good news following a string of setbacks.
Jamie Inglis, seven, is in remission from the childhood cancer neuroblastoma, but has undergone antibody treatment to help ensure his immune system will fight any rogue cancer cells in the future.
In recent weeks he has suffered from complications which led doctors to battle for two hours to keep him breathing and stabilise his blood pressure and was put on a respirator.
However, doctors have now found signs he is beginning to regulate his own breathing and there are signs his brain stem is improving.
Jamie’s oxygen and ventilation levels are also being reduced which means he keeps trying to wake up and move and talk, his parents said.
They said they are cautiously optimistic about the news, which was announced after the Christmas play at Jamie’s school Lord Deramore’s Primary School to applause from the staff and children.
