A RYEDALE woman has been reunited with two rings belonging to her late father after they were lost in fields four months ago.

Louise Boddy, from Amotherby, had been wearing the silver and gold rings on a chain following her father’s death in July.

While walking her dog on the gallops near Easthorpe, the chain had snapped without her noticing it and it was only when Louise returned home that she discovered the rings were missing.

“I thought I had lost them for good but then a friend said she had seen a poster for a metal detecting club and I decided to get in touch,” she said.

“One of the members, Jim Cooper, who came out and met me and then spent time searching the area.”

Louise said Jim had phoned her a few days later to say she had managed to find the rings.

“I was over the moon – I really thought I wouldn’t get them back,” she said.

“I was so grateful to Jim and the rings are now kept in a safe place.”

Jim said he had gone out to the area twice before finding the rings.

“It was absolutely magic when I discovered them. I didn’t find the chain but the rings were there,” he said.

“This is not the first time I have helped someone in such a way and it is quite a thrill when you find what you are looking for.

“When I phoned Louise that evening she was delighted.”

Jim, who is membership secretary of York and District Metal Detecting Club, said they offered a free recovery service to the public.

“We are based in York but cover the whole region and have found a number of things including Medieval coins and Roman pieces,” he said.

“We are a responsible club and always gain permission to go on land beforehand.”
