York police are appealing to takeaway customers and taxi drivers after a man was racially abused.
The victim was waiting in the queue to buy food at Subway in Clifford Street when he was abused.
The suspect then left the shop and got into a taxi in Clifford Street.
The suspect is white, about 5ft 2in tall, of slim build with short hair. He was wearing burgundy coloured trousers, a black jacket with a white t-shirt underneath.
The incident happened between 3.50am and 4.10am on December 2.
PC Andrew Pearson, of York police, said: “This involved an innocent member of the public who was subjected to appalling racist verbal abuse. This is completely unacceptable in a civilised society.”
