The Rotary Club of York have announced that Help For Heroes will be their selected charity for the 2013 Dragon Boat Challenge.

Club president Darrell Hind said: “It is always a difficult decision for us because there are so many deserving local charities. However this year it was the unanimous decision of our members that our fundraising effort should be directed to Help For Heroes.

"They are in the process of developing a new recovery Unit at Catterick Garrison and we hope to raise sufficient funds to sponsor the provision of a custom designed specialist recovery room in the new building. I’m confident our choice will be well received by our regular competitors and hopefully it will encourage even more generous public support for the 600 paddlers who’ll be racing on the river Ouse in York on Sunday, July 14.”

During the last ten years more than 150 local charities have shared £677,000 .

Entry is restricted to 36 teams.
