A SINGER serenaded a York grandmother as she marked her centenary surrounded by family and friends.

Gertrude Moor was born on December 5, 1912, in York and she grew up in Burton Stone Lane.

She worked at Terry’s Chocolate Factory before she met her husband, George.

The couple went on to have a daughter Pauline and son Colin – and five grandchildren.

Mrs Moor moved to live in Marjorie Waite Court, in Clifton, after her husband died in 1970 at the age of 58.

It was in the communal hall at Marjorie Waite that friends and family gathered yesterday for a surprise party in her honour.

Her daughter organised a singer to perform a three-hour set as Mrs Moor opened presents, enjoyed birthday cake and toasted her 100th birthday.
