A FASHION-conscious business woman has opened a new designer boutique in York.

Liz Moyles, whose background is in biochemistry and until recently travelled the world providing leadership training, has set up Kenzi UK, a new independent shop in Goodramgate.

Liz, who employs six full and part-time staff at the shop said: “I have always loved clothes and when I was 18, I wanted to be a fashion buyer, but my parents said it wasn’t a sensible career route.”

But when she hit 40, she evaluated her life and realised she didn’t want to travel so much.

Liz said her friends suggested she pursue her personal interest in fashion.

She said: “I thought what chance have I got to make it when the high street is in a mess? But had to look into it before dismissing the idea.”

She has handpicked designers which are well known in their own countries, but new to the north of England, as well as jewellery designers including Jukes Smith, whose work is admired by celebrities such as Rihanna.

Liz said: “Overseas they have a higher mark up, but it’s the first time most of them have come to the UK.

“In a few years, when these designers become more established in the UK, the prices will rocket.”

The new shop, located in the 15th century Wealden Hall, was officially opened on Saturday by the Lord Mayor, Coun Keith Hyman and Lady Mayoress Karen Hyman.
