Drop-in sessions to explain housing options
8:14am Wednesday 28th November 2012 in News
A series of drop-in sessions are being run by City of York Council to offer advice and support at York Housing Association schemes for older people to help them to make decisions on their future housing needs.
The sessions aim to share the information in the recently launched Positive Ageing: Housing Guide for Older People and to offer one-to-one advice to older people. The first session takes place today at Margaret Philipson Court, Aldwark from 9am to noon. The guide was launched as part of City of York Council's first Housing Week and was drafted in consultation from with Age UK, York Housing Association, Yorkshire Housing, Older Citizens' Advice York and York Older Persons' Assembly. The guide supports older people who are increasingly choosing to remain in their own homes and the sessions aim to answer queries on a range of issues including moving house, home improvements, support in the home, specialist accommodation and Telecare. The rest of the sessions, all from 9am and noon, are:
• Friday, December 7 at the Terrace Cafe, Auden House, Cemetery Road.
• Wednesday, December 12 at Margaret Philipson Court, Aldwark.
• Friday, December 21 at the Terrace Cafe, Auden House, Cemetery Road.
Councillor Tracey Simpson-Laing, City of York Council's Cabinet Member for Health, Housing and Adult Social Service, said: "The recently launched housing guide and drop-in sessions enhance the current housing support on offer from the council."
