Closing down for the night with the River Ouse in York at 4.53 m, which is almost 15 ft.  It is expected to peak at 4.8 m early tomorrow morning which is below the peak in September's floods. 

Go carefully, check your route before setting off for work or school tomorrow and remember - stay out of the water.   We'll be back on live in the morning.  Good luck to the emergency services and the Environment Agency and to everyone else working through the night.

If you've just been watching all the pictures of flooding in York on the television, it's worth repeating what City of York Council said earlier today.  York is open for business.

The Royal Oak in Old Malton is going ahead with its gourmet night tonight, despite the floods affecting other properties in the small town.  "It's business as usual" landlord Ian Turner said.

County Bridge in Malton is closed, causing major traffic disruption in the town. Water has reached the arches and there are safety fears.

City of York Council is closing Knavesmire Road because of flooding.

East Coast trains are hoping repairs on the railway between York and Newcastle will be finished tonight.  The problems with overhead lines have affected services for most of today and passengers have been urged to delay their journeys until tomorrow if at all possible.

Two drivers had to be rescued in separate incidents when both got stuck in floodwater on Moor Lane Naburn.  First an HGV driver and his vehicle had to be winched to safety.  Later a woman driver and her car also had to be rescued on the same stretch of road.

Two Malton people are in emergency accommodation this evening after water flooded their home and made it uninhabitable.

Emergency services, gas and electricity companies and the local council are in a meeting to discuss this morning's evacuation of terraced houses on Aelfreda Terrace, Whitby, after part of their frontage started crumbling.  The houses are in the ravine that runs inland from the harbour.

The River Ouse has reached 14 ft 10 1/2 inches in York city centre and is continuing to rise.  It is expected to peak tomorrow morning.

A RYEDALE MP says she is disappointed that Pickering may again be at risk of flooding following recent heavy rain.
 

Anne McIntosh said: “While I am pleased that the Environment Agency has implemented part of the Slowing the Flow Project, we are still waiting on the bunds or mini- dams, which are essential to the scheme, to be constructed.
 

“The bottom line is we must stop building in inappropriate areas such as functional flood plains.
 

She said: “Clearly the deluge we have experienced over recent days is of biblical proportions but I do believe we could have done more between flood events as I have outlined.”

Now it's up to 46 flooding incidents dealt with by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue today and they are urging everyone not to drive, walk or ride through floodwater and push the figure higher.

The fire service has been to more than 40 flood related incidents so far today in North Yorkshire.

Bit of good news - no frost expected tonight in York or North Yorkshire and although rain is forecast, it will be showers rather than the downpours we have seen recently.

A bit of background on the York Flood Group, which has been convened today....

The group is convened when the river level is predicted to remain higher than 4.2m above normal summer levels for an extended period, or if the Foss Barrier or other defences fail or are breached.

The group includes representatives from the city council, police, fire brigade, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency.

The city council say that, in accordance with their sandbag policy, where resources allow they will deliver sandbags to individual properties immediately at risk of flooding to the living accommodation.

Another pump is on its way to Malton to join the six already pumping water out of flooded properties there.  Humberside Fire Servicesent a high volume pump which joined forces with the three Environment Agency pumps and two highway pumps already at work.

Very latest information from City of York Council on road closures and travel routes affected by flooding:

Ward by Ward break down of road/ closures:

Fulford Ward: A19 Fulford at Germany Beck
Micklegate Ward: Skeldergate and Terry Avenue
Wheldrake Ward: Naburn Lane. Naburn Primary School is also closed today and likely tomorrow.
Guildhall Ward: There should be no further road closures, although there is potential
for seepage to cause problems on B1227 Tower Street.

The B1228 road out of Elvington to Sutton on Derwent has been closed by East Yorkshire Council
 

 
Bus routes in and around York:

The ‘Fordlands Ferry’ came  into operation from 12noon to 12 midnight tonight, starting again from 6am Wednesday. It will not run after midnight.

Bus route diversions at present are as follows:
Route 1 – Not affected.

Route 2 (Rawcliffe Bar Park & Ride) – Not affected.

Route 3 (Askham Bar Park & Ride) – Buses are currently running in to the city via Nunnery Lane and Bishopgate Street direct to Tower Street.  All outbound stops are still being served.

Route 4 – Not affected.

Route 5 – Not affected.

Route 6 – Not affected.

Route 7 (Designer Outlet Park & Ride) – With A19 Selby Road closed, buses between the Designer Outlet and the city centre are operating via the A64 and A1036 Tadcaster Road.  All usual city centre stops are being served.  Please note though that these buses will not stop on Blossom Street or Tadcaster Road.  In addition, First will be operating a shuttle service from the city centre as far as Broadway, then Heslington Lane, right onto A19 Main Street and back in to the city centre.

Route 8 (Grimston Bar Park & Ride) – Not affected.

Route 9 (Monks Cross Park & Ride) – Not directly affected but traffic management for the emergency repairs on A1036 Heworth Green may cause some delays at peak times.

Route 10 – Main Street, Nether Poppleton is closed so buses are running from Millfield Lane, via Ebor Way and Dikelands Lane back onto normal line of route at Main Street.

Route 11 – Not affected.

Route 12 – Not affected.

Route 13 – Not affected.

Route 14 – Not affected.

Route 15 – Not affected.

Route 16 – Not affected.

Routes 19B and 19L– Not affected.

Route 20 – Main Street, Nether Poppleton is closed so buses are running from Millfield Lane via Ebor Way, Allerton Drive and Riversvale Drive back on to normal line of route at Main Street and vice versa.

Route 21 – Buses are still serving Acaster Malbis but are not able to use Hauling Lane.

Routes 24 and 26 – Fordlands Road is closed so buses are running from the city centre as far as A19 Main Street, left into Heslington Lane, Broadway, then right onto A19 Fulford Road back in to the city centre.  City of York Council is providing a four-wheel drive vehicle to provide a direct connection to the Fordlands Road area.

Route 29 – Not affected.

Route 30 – Not affected.

Route 31 – Not affected.

Route 35 – A19 Selby Road is closed so buses are running in via the A64, A1079 Hull Road, Field Lane, Heslington Lane and on to normal line of route at A19 Main Street and vice versa.

Route 36 - A19 Selby Road is closed so buses are running in via the A64, A1079 Hull Road, Field Lane, Heslington Lane and on to normal line of route at A19 Main Street and vice versa.

Route 37 – Not affected.

Route 40 – Not affected.

Route 42 – B1222 Naburn Lane is closed so buses are only running on the southern section of the route.

Route 44 – Not affected.

Routes 142 and 143 – Not affected.

Route 181 – Not affected.

Route 415 - A19 Selby Road is closed so buses are running via the A64, A1079 Hull Road, Field Lane and Heslington Lane.

Routes 412 and 413 – Not affected.

Coastliner services from Leeds (routes X40, X43, X45, 743, 840, 843, 844 and 845) – Not affected.

Routes from East Yorkshire (routes X4, X46, X47, 195, 196, 744, 746 and 747) – Skeldergate is closed to traffic so some buses are taking a different route through the city centre but all usual stops are being served.

The scene at Clifton Ings where Woman and three dogs were rescued:

An eye-witness to the Clifton Ings rescue, Des Brind, said the woman appeared to be in her mid-fifites.

"The fire brigade was there and they had to bring a rescue boat.  They had to shoot across to her to get her and her dogs," he said.    

The boat was launched at 2pm after an initial reconnaissance by fire crews who were called to the Rawcliffe end of Clifton Ings by police at 1.05pm.

The woman trapped on Clifton Ings by the floods has been brought safely to dry land.

Police alerted the fire service to her plight at 1.05pm and the fire rescue unit launched its boat. 

She was out walking three dogs at the Rawcliffe end of the open land north of Clifton Bridge.  She is believed to be unharmed and continued on her walk with the animals after she was rescued.

Latest River level measurements for York show the Ouse to be at 4.51 metres while in Malton the River Derwent is currently at 4.64 metres.

In Old Malton, water pumping continues in an attempt to relieve pressure on the overloaded sewage sytems. While the river levels are high thery are not expected to breach flood defences in the town.

Flooding is likely to continue in York and North Yorkshire until Thursday according to the latest three-day forecast by the Environment Agency.

Firefighters have gone to the aid of a woman who is stranded on Clifton Ings with three dogs.  They have launched the fire service rescue boat to bring her to safety.

A reminder on the situation in York: The latest measure says the Ouse is 4.4m above normal summer levels and it is predicted to peak in the early hours of tomorrow at 4.8m.

To put that in context, September's flood (the second-highest recorded in York in modern times) peaked at 5.07m.

The city council are keen to stress that the vast, vast majority of York is unaffected and remains open for business.

LATEST - Naburn Primary School closed after floods hit surrounding roads and paths.

Also B1228 at Elvington is now closed over the bridge.

In Easingwold, Hambleton District Council has set up a bank in the Galtres Centre car park where residents can collect up to ten sandbags to help protect their property.

Current level of River Ouse in York now at 4.48 metres with levels still not expected to peak until Wednesday morning, according to Environment Agency.

LATEST - The flood barrier on B1222 Cawood Bridge is to be raised meaning the road will now be closed to traffic.

Cawood Parish Council said it has been told by the Environmental Agency that the barrier will be raised until further notice, however river levels are not expected to breach flood defences.

There are reportedly fears for around 50 properties in Pickering. The warning there is around Beck Isle and Hungate.

The fire brigade say they've had a surprisingly-quiet night and morning so far, with very few incidents. They may well have a busy day ahead though.

There has been heavy rainfall overnight in Pickering and there is a warning in place there for the beck, around Beck Isle and Hungate.

At 2am this morning, the Environent Agency said the beck was 0.85m above normal levels and said that would rise, with an estimated peak of 1.13m at noon today.

Still in York, the Foss is now 2.6 metres above normal in the Huntington area and a warning remains in place for isolated properties in Huntington Road, Haley's Terrace, Yearsley Crescent, The Groves, Foss Bank and properties around Wormald's Cut and Foss Navigation. 

The Environment Agency said about ten minutes ago that the Foss would remain high for the rest of today.

There is also a warning in place at Fulford, including the pumping station, York Motor Yacht Club, Love Lane, Fordlands Road and Selby Road.

The Environment Agency's latest warning for Alma Terrace, River Street and Peckitt Street in York was issued at 5.46am today. It says the Ouse is 4.25m above normal and that figure is expected to rise slowly today as water flows off the Pennines and through the Vale of York.
