A COUPLE who live at a York care home have celebrated their platinum wedding.
John and Edith Hitching, formerly of Acomb but now residents of Amarna House care home in Rosetta Way, off Boroughbridge Road, married in the middle of the Second World War.
The home’s activities coordinator, Kath Dunne, said they had met at a REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) workshop in Fulford.
She said Mr Hitching, now 92, went on to work for a York plumbing business while Mrs Hitching, now 95, worked for Rowntrees. The couple had two children – Diane and Paul – six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She said she took the couple out shopping and then residents joined in a singalong as the couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, with photographs from when they were married put on display.
She said: “They had a wonderful afternoon.”
