RUNNERS who dream of following in the fast footsteps of Yorkshire marathon star Tracey Morris are being handed the perfect incentive – a free pass into the county’s top runs.
Jane Tomlinson’s Run for All, the team behind the York 10k and sister 10K events in Hull and Leeds and the Leeds Half Marathon, is offering complimentary Fast Pass entry to Yorkshire club runners who have clocked up a quick enough time in a 2012 race.
The good news is that they don’t need to be quite as fast as Tracey – whose achievements include being the first British woman to finish the London Marathon in 2004, being fourth in the marathon at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006 with a personal best of 2:33:13, and competing in the Olympic marathon in Athens in 2004 with a time of 2:41:00.
Run for All is offering free 2013 entry to men who achieved a time below 74 minutes in a half-marathon or under 33 minutes in a 10K. Women, meanwhile, get the free Fast Pass if they have crossed a half-marathon line in less than 87 minutes or a 10K in less than 39 minutes.
Tracey, who is a member of Valley Striders in Leeds, said: “The Run For All 10Ks and the Leeds Half Marathon are the top events in Yorkshire’s running calendar, so to be able to get free entry is brilliant.
“Yorkshire has lots of great running clubs and some amazing amateur athletes who will jump at this chance.
“The Leeds Half and the 10Ks are challenging, but it is a chance to really push yourself and see what you can achieve. Many people do get a personal best, which is what we are all striving for.”
The York 10k will take place on August 4, while the the Leeds Half Marathon will be on May 12, the Leeds 10K on July 14, and the Hull 10K on May 19.
Qualifying runners should email email@example.com stating their name, club, time and event they wish to enter.
All runners have only until the end of the year to bag themselves some discounts. Entry to each of the Leeds, Hull and York 10Ks is just £20.12 until the end of the year.
The Yorkshire 10K Season Ticket, meanwhile, gives runners entry to the Leeds 10K, Hull 10K and York 10K for just £50. The Jane Tomlinson Appeal was launched as a lasting legacy to Jane Tomlinson CBE who died from cancer in 2007.
Before her death aged just 43, Jane raised £1.8m for children’s and cancer charities through a series of incredible endurance feats – despite suffering from terminal cancer.
Her family – husband Mike and three children – pledged to carry on her good works and are now close to raising £5m for charity.
