WORDS from a poem by York-born WH Auden have provided the inspiration for the first piece of public art in the courtyard of City of York Council’s new headquarters.
The sculpture will grace the tree-lined courtyard of West Offices, which will provide a peaceful public space with outdoor seating next to the entrance to the new Customer Centre, parallel to Toft Green.
Designed by local artist Mat Lazenby, director and co-founder of the Shambles-based design practice LazenbyBrown, it is a flat, inlaid sculpture created from a series of laser-cut stainless steel arcs that feature a quote from W H Auden’s poem As I Walked Out One Evening. It was being unveiled today.
