A WOMAN who pulled a knife on a man she believed had supplied her brother with drugs has been sentenced in court.

Hannah Janet Briony Chambers was angry because the man had threatened her father and made him pay her brother’s drug debts, said defence barrister Glenn Parsons.

Helen Wheatley, prosecuting, told York Crown Court that the man’s family was at home when they heard a loud bang and saw Chambers, 20, standing outside.

Chambers ran at the house with a bottle in her hand and then pulled out a knife and brandished it in “quite a wild fashion” at the alleged dealer who had gone outside, the court heard.

He managed to disarm her and she waited until the police arrived to arrest her.

Judge Roger Ibbotson told her: “Whatever the grounds of disapproval of the dealer, that doesn’t entitle you to place his family in fear.”

He imposed a six-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months on condition Chambers completes 12 months’ supervision and 80 hours’ unpaid work.

Chambers, of Bempton House, Del Pyke, The Groves, York, pleaded guilty to carrying a knife in public.

Mr Parsons said the man had been selling drugs to his client’s brother.

After the incident involving her father, she had something to drink and went round to the alleged dealer’s house. “Had she been thinking more clearly, she would never have embarked on this,” said Mr Parsons.

Ms Wheatley said the alleged dealer had a “substantial record” mostly for public order and violent offences.

The record did not include drug dealing convictions and police could not confirm Chambers’ specific allegations about him.
