A MAN was today fighting for his life after being repeatedly stabbed in York.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested following the incident, which happened at a property in Cygnet Street, off Nunnery Lane.

Three forensic officers were carrying out a full-scale search of a sealed-off corner house shortly before 5.30pm last night and left with a large evidence bag.

A blue and white police tape remained around the property and a mobile police office and a crime scene investigation van were stationed outside.

North Yorkshire Police said officers had been called to reports of a disturbance at a property in Cygnet Street, off Nunnery Lane, at 5.30pm on Tuesday.

On arrival, police found a 38-year-old man suffering from a number of injuries to his back and stomach.

He was taken to York Hospital for treatment and police described his condition last night as life-threatening. Officers recovered a weapon at the scene, which The Press understands was a knife.

One neighbour said last night: “The first I heard of the incident was at about 6.30pm on Tuesday when I went to the shops and there were police cars everywhere.”

She said she knew that a man and a woman lived in the property, but there were no children there.

A worker at the nearby BNT grocery store said a police officer had visited yesterday to retrieve the store’s CCTV footage.

Another local resident said he witnessed about four or five police vehicles attend the property on Tuesday night and stayed there for several hours.
