CINEMA lovers in North Yorkshire have been urged to get along to a special event in York next month for fear it may not return.

The Movie Buff Collectors’ Fair will be held for the second year at the Royal York Hotel on December 2, and organiser Nick Andrew said he hoped to better last year’s numbers to ensure the movie fair can continue to visit York.

This week, Nick had taken to the streets of York and Pocklington to drum up awareness and support for the event, with a clutch of famous faces from the sci-fi world.

He said: “We had a biker scout from Return Of The Jedi, Thor, Magneto and Rimmer from Red Dwarf out in York to help raise awareness of the event.

“We’re appealing to all fans of television, film and sci-fi to get on board and come visit the event in York, and we’ve also got very special guests, including Boba Fett himself, Jeremy Bulloch.”

As well as Mr Bulloch, actor Shane Rimmer has been confirmed to attend the event.

His credits include Star Wars Episode IV, the Bond movies You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever and The Spy Who Loved Me, and the voice of Scott Tracy in classic television series Thunderbirds.

Nick said it was important for fans to get behind the event, to ensure it could continue in the future.

He said: “It’s a gamble every time we do an event, as we rely on local public to come and support the event.

“So if you’re a sci-fi fan and want to see events like this take off and become bigger and better, we need your support. We’re also keen to hear from anyone who wants to exhibit at the event and anyone with memorabilia to display or sell can get in touch.

“People can hire stalls and make a bit of Christmas money and clear out their lofts as well.”
