The incident happened at about 12.05pm today, when a 19-year-old male pedestrian was injured in a collision with a black Ford Ka.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene, and the man was taken to York Hospital.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the driver of the car was not arrested, and the man remained in hospital with a suspected fractured skull.
