EXCITEMENT has reached fever pitch at the school behind the internet hit Tad Gram Style.

The parody of the worldwide hit Gangnam Style, by staff at Tadcaster Grammar School, had yesterday been viewed almost 90,000 times on YouTube and the success has led the producers of Children In Need to invite the teachers to appear in tomorrow’s live broadcast.

The music video shows teachers and students singing a Yorkshire-themed version of the hit while doing the signature pony dancing in front of local sights.

Its success is a huge surprise for English teacher and singer Adam Dawson who wrote the words and made the video as part of a teachers X-Factor style competition.

Mr Dawson and colleagues will travel to the Magna Centre in Rotherham for the live broadcast of Children In Need, for which the video was intended to raise money.

“We were expecting nothing like it,” he said.

“It’s bizarre. I’m so pleased it’s doing so well for the charity and raising the profile of the school. The kids’ reaction has been wonderful and it’s something to be proud of for the school.”

Geoff Mitchell, the head teacher, said pupils and the wider community had all been talking about Tad Gram Style.

“I’m encouraged and surprised by the level of interest it has received. I’m amazed by the number of parents and members of the community who have emailed in to say what a fantastic place the school must be. It has created a huge buzz around the school.”

Ben Prudhoe, 13, said: “It has been really good. Everybody is coming up and saying ‘you were in the video’. It’s exciting, we are going to be on TV.”

Sixth-former Jess Orr, filmed with her friend Natalie Prince walking down the library stairs, said: “It’s a massive reaction. If we do something funny now one of our friends keeps going, ‘you’ve got Tad Gram Style’.

“We’re only on it for a few seconds, but everyone is talking about it.”

Rachael McHenery, 12, also said people had recognised her from her role on the school bus.

Other organisations to become involved include Yorkshire Tea, mentioned frequently in the track, which has put a link to the song on its website, and Eddie Brown, which has offered a coach to take the teachers to the Friday broadcast.

Psy’s song Gangnam Style, which features a horseriding-style dance, went viral on YouTube and has been viewed more than 665 million times on YouTube since mid-July – inspiring tributes and parodies around the world.
