VOTING is today taking place to decide who will be North Yorkshire’s new Police and Crime Commissioner.
Two candidates are in the running for the £70,000-a-year role, which will include the power to hire and fire chief constables and responsibility for setting North Yorkshire Police’s budget, with Conservative runner Julia Mulligan up against Labour rival Ruth Potter.
Last-minute campaigning was today taking place by both candidates, with polling stations open until late tonight.
However, the run-up to election day has been dogged by concerns over voter apathy.
