THREE people have been taken to hospital following a two-car crash this afternoon which blocked a major road near York.

The accident happened on the A1079 at Wilberfoss at about 1.50pm, involving a silver Mazda and a white Toyota, and Yorkshire Ambulance Service said a rapid response vehicle and three ambulances had been sent to the scene.

Two of those who were injured were not seriously hurt, but another has suffered serious neck and shoulder injuries. All three have been taken to York Hospital for treatment.

The road was initially blocked in both directions, but has now been cleared. Diversions were put in place through Wilberfoss.
