VANDALS left a trail of destruction in the Tang Hall area of York after setting fire to 11 wheelie bins in a night of “mindless vandalism.”
Police were alerted to the spree in the early hours of yesterday by North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, which had officers on the scene tackling the fires until 5.20am.
Witnesses, or those with information, are now being urged to come forward by York Police.
A spokesman for the force said: “Not only was this an act of mindless vandalism, but it is dangerous and thankfully nobody was hurt.
“It is also very inconvenient for the residents whose bins have been damaged and somebody is going to have to bear the cost of replacing them.
“Anyone who knows who is responsible or witnessed the incidents is urged to contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.”
According to the police, four bins were set alight in Etty Avenue, three in Burlington Avenue, one in Constantine Avenue, one in Fourth Avenue, one in Seventh Avenue and one in Rockingham Avenue.
Anyone with information is asked to phone York Police on 101 or Crimestoppers can be phoned anonymously on 0800 555 111.
