York artist Dan Savage is celebrating a notable national double.

Dan, of Artstop Studios, was winner of last year’s prestigious Building Better Healthcare Awards.

Now Dan has done it again with his art scheme for a new young people’s mental health centre in Northumberland.

The Building Better Healthcare Awards celebrate “the people, processes, products and premises that are helping to transform medical practices across the UK”.

Last year, Dan won the Interior Design category for his artwork at York Hospital's Bereavement Suite. The new mental health centre, Ferndene, which will be officially opened later this month by the Duchess of Northumberland.

It provides inpatient assessment and treatment for young people with complex health, behavioural and emotional needs and is the first such integrated service of its kind in the country.

Dan’s artworks run throughout the centre, from the entrance gates to the bedroom windows, café and courtyards, were created to provide a supportive atmosphere with positive calming distractions.

in 2009, Dan, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2003, won a national award for his work in raising awareness of the disease in the young when he was named Macmillan Cancer Relief’s Young Cancer Champion of the Year.

In 2007 he was named The Press Young Business Entrepreneur Of The Year at the newspaper’s annual business awards.
