A waxwing
THE Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has alerted residents in York to an invasion of waxwings.
Flocks of the distinctive Scandinavian birds are appearing across York.
Two have already been spotted in Bishopthorpe and flocks have appeared at St George’s Field and in the Museum Gardens.
Expert Jono Leadley said: “Listen out for their high-pitched trilling calls and look for them in urban areas especially where there are berry-bearing shrubs and trees, such as rowan, pyracantha and hawthorn.”
