CITY of York Council has launched a new guide for people considering where they should live as they get older.

Positive Ageing - Housing Choices: The Older Person’s Guide To Housing Options is intended to inspire and inform older people about the range of housing options available to them, said a spokeswoman.

It was launched yesterday at Auden House, a sheltered accommodation scheme with extra care. Older people in the city connected to Age UK, York Housing Association, Yorkshire Housing, Older Citizens Advice York and York Older Persons’ Assembly have contributed to the guide.

The contributors said older people were increasingly choosing to remain in their own homes for longer and looking for services to assist and support them in this.

The guide lists such help and assistance, along with providing information on other types of accommodation which people might wish to consider.

The document will be available at www.york.gov.uk/housing and also as a printed booklet from the council.
