TWO masked men armed with a knife robbed a North Yorkshire supermarket.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the armed raid at 9.30pm yesterday, at the Co-op store on St Winifred’s Avenue, Harrogate.

The men entered the shop and one treatened the staff with a knife before stealing about £180.

When they left the premises they headed along St Winifred’s Avenue towards the hospital. The suspect who threatened the staff is described as being about 5ft 3in tall with a stocky build.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a green balaclava, black shiny jacket and dark jogging pants.

A 23-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.

”I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the two suspects after they left the store or saw anyone acting suspiciously prior to the robbery.”

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact Harrogate CID on 101. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
