GENEROUS shoppers dug deep to help a new anti-poverty project in York.

Volunteers from the York Foodbank were at the Morrisons store in Acomb yesterday to collect donations for their stocks.

The food bank, run from the Gateway Centre in Acomb and backed by local churches and The Trussell Trust, will officially launch later this month.

It will provide emergency food supplies for families and householders in short-term crisis. Further collection events are to be held at other supermarkets in the city over the coming weeks.
