MORE businesses in York are supporting this year’s Lord Mayor’s Christmas Cheer function with cash donations and offerings of festive food.
This year will see 800 lucky York pensioners invited to attend the annual function with the Lord Mayor, Coun Keith Hyman, which takes place over four sessions in the Assembly Rooms in Blake Street.
Yesterday The Mansion House confirmed that the Shepherd Group was the latest company to offer its support with a £500 donation, while technology company TSYS also made a donation.
The first of our application forms to attend the event have also begun to arrive at the Mansion House.
Coun Hyman said: “We have been delighted by the support flooding in from local businesses in the city to support the Christmas receptions.
‘‘We are still looking for donations of raffle prizes for the events and would ask anyone who can support us in this way to get in touch.
“The York 800 receptions look set to be the biggest and the best and we are very much looking forward to having some Christmas Cheer with 800 residents. We are also delighted that once again the York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir will be joining us for Christmas carol singing.
‘‘And we hope a number of local York schools will also be able to attend and provide us with some festive entertainment.”
As well as entertainment from local school choirs, guests will also be offered sandwiches, mince pies and tea or coffee.
This year’s Christmas Cheer events take place on Monday, November 26 and Monday, December 3.
York residents aged 65 or over are welcome to fill in the form printed in The Press newspaper today for the chance to attend.
Completed forms should be returned to the address given on the form by November 14.
Lucky winners, drawn at random by the civic party on November 14, will be sent a ticket for one of the events.
Applicants are asked to specify a preferred date and time, however the civic party does not guarantee applicants will be allocated their first choice. Each day has sessions at 10am and 2pm.
Offers of donations or raffle prizes should be made to Anne Platt on 01904 551011, or email civicenquiries@york.gov.uk
