Friends Meeting House revamp approved

PLANS to revamp a base for meetings in the centre of York have been given the go-ahead.

The scheme will see the Friends Meeting House, in Friargate, being refurbished and disabled access improved by adding a new three-storey “circulation tower”, including a lift, stairs and meeting rooms.

The proposals also include a first-floor extension over the existing library in the building, which is a place of worship for Quakers, and its Penn Room, while the Woolman Room will also be given a new look.

Architects acting for the owners of the meeting house said the aim was to expand the facilities it offers and make it easier for people to use it.
