POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a girl was sexually assaulted outside York train station.
The victim, a 16-year-old local girl, was sitting in a glass bus shelter at about 3.15pm yesterday when she was approached by a man who kissed her on the cheek and then again on the neck.
The man, who was drinking from a can of lager, is described as white, around 5ft 2in tall with balding, short brown hair.
He was scruffily dressed in a blue jacket and light blue jeans. Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them with information.
PC Paul Sutton, of York police, said: “The victim was sitting alone at the bus stop and this incident was obviously upsetting for her.
“It occurred at a busy time of day, in a busy area of the city, therefore it is possible that someone saw what happened and has information that can help the investigation.”
Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact police on 101.
Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
A 48-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail as enquiries continue.
