Railway group in locomotive building hope

RAIL enthusiasts are looking to set up a base for restoring locomotives and rolling stock at a York museum.

The Derwent Valley Light Railway Society has applied to create a building at the Yorkshire Museum of Farming, at Murton, from where it runs passenger trains over the remaining half-mile section of the route, which it said would allow it to make “unprecedented” improvements.

In its application to City of York Council, the society said the scheme would mean routine maintenance work can be carried out to a higher standard than it is currently able to and will also ensure greater safety for its volunteers.

Shame it can't extend the railway to Osbaldwick and/or dunnington, might get more customers then.
