Savings reduce City of York Council’s overspend

City of York Council has reduced its overspend from £6 million to £2.5 million.

Earlier this year, The Press reported how the council faced missing its budget by £6 million this year according to a financial report, but it announced that since the last quarterly finance update in July, “extensive mitigation measures and efficiency savings” mean that the overspend stands at £2.5 million.

Cabinet will be asked to review the report on City of York Council’s performance over the last quarter, on November 6.

Meanwhile, the council has also released findings of a survey of York residents which indicate that over 90 per cent of residents said they were satisfied or very satisfied with living in York, adding weight to the city’s reputation as a great place to live, work, visit and invest.

Come on reporters, lets get this right. The key word missed out here as i understand it is FORECAST overspend. In their budget oversight they have to forecast spending over the year - so the beginning of the year, like all councils is worst case scenario...Each report they work to reduce it... So boring to see the same mistake being made by reporters, for the sake of a cheap headline. Sorry it gets me mad, why make a crisis when there isn't one... Grrrrrrrrr :)
