ONE of York’s most famous historical characters will return to the city this November 5 to thrill the crowds at a bonfire event on Knavesmire.

The flamboyant entertainer behind York’s famous Ghost Walk, Trevor Rooney, will take on the character of Guy Fawkes to tell the story of the infamous Gunpowder Plotter.

He said: “I do the Guy Fawkes story almost every night on my Ghost Walk and it’s a very interesting tale - particularly where he was born and educated.

“It’s totally normal for me to do a Guy Fawkes, in fact a lot of people say I look like him.”

“This will be a perfect reminder of a major piece of the country’s history.”

The Gunpowder Plod event, which also includes a 5k fun run, takes place at Knavesmire on Monday, November 5, and organisers promise York’s biggest fireworks event ever.

Is this a news item or a free advert for one of the many "ghost walks" that plague the residential areas of the inner city for a couple of hours every evening?

If he says he looks like Guy Fawkes, maybe he deserves the same fate!

Isn't he going to beaten back by the Kaboom event on Nov 4th which, I think, is also going to feature the Guy Fawkes story........?

Nice advert for the Ratrace event though but it obviously isn't going to be as popular as they thought otherwise it would've sold out of tickets by now.....

btw....Is the Press sponsoring the Ratrace event? This is now the 16th story in less than 3 months (more than 1 per week) which features this event......this even has to be a higher rate than the wheel has achieved!

Can't wait to see Trevor on Monday, his stories are always fantastic and my kids are really looking forward to it.

I think it's unfair to say that it's going to be 'beaten' by Kaboom on the 4th - the story of Guy Fawkes has been around for quite some time and it is bonfire night after all! As an avid reader of The Press I'm a bit disappointed to constantly read comments from the Kaboom organisers questioning and sniping at this event. There's enough room for everyone and with the Maze selling out every year it's great to finally have some choice in the area.

What's kaboom? Can't wait for Trevor's larger than life story, the original Guy Fawkes!
