Plea for paramedics base to stay open for five years

AMBULANCE bosses have applied to keep a satellite station for paramedics open for five more years.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) opened the “stand-by point”, a portable building next to the Acomb Explore library centre in Front Street, York, in 2008.

It was part of a wider plan to allow its teams to be based at different locations around the city so response times could be cut, rather than simply operating from the service’s main stations.

Planning permission for the facility is due to expire at the end of November and YAS has now asked City of York Council to renew it until 2017.
