Councillors told of York St John University sports site plans

PLANS for new state-of-the-art sports facilities to be developed by York St John University have been presented to councillors.

David Chesser, pro vice chancellor of resources, Colin Parkin, director of facilities, and professor Andy Smith, head of sports performance and participation at the university, gave a presentation to City of York Council’s planning committee about plans for the Haxby Road site, ahead of a formal planning submission.

The 57-acre Mille Crux site was bought by the university earlier this year and improvements have been made to the facilities, including a cricket pitch, two rugby pitches, five football pitches, a six-lane athletics sprint track, three tennis courts and two netball courts.

The university aims to make York St John University Sports Centre Nestle Rowntree Park “one of the best venues for student and community sport in the UK”, including all-weather pitches, floodlights and improved car parking.

They have been putting up "private property" signs already, stopping people walking their dogs on what is - still - open land with nothing of value on it. Where is the money for all this coming from? As if I don't know already.
