Footballer acquitted of GBH charge
10:00am Saturday 27th October 2012 in News
THE footballer alleged to have broken another player’s jaw during a cup match will not face a retrial.
The prosecution offered no evidence against Jody Lewis Haw, 30, of Malvern Avenue, Acomb and he was formally acquitted.
He denied causing grievous bodily harm to Daniel Hebditch during a match between Huntington WMC and the Dick Turpin pub on October 30, 2011, on Knavesmire.
After hearing from both men and other witnesses, a York jury was unable to reach a verdict earlier this month and the prosecution asked for time to consider its position. The CPS has now decided not to take the case further.
