Get your skates on to help brave Jamie Inglis

YOUNGSTERS are being encouraged to get their skates on and raise vital cash towards the campaign to help a brave little boy from York have potentially life-saving cancer treatment in Germany.

Seven-year-old Jamie Inglis, who is undergoing lifesaving treatment for the childhood cancer neuroblastoma, has recently returned home to Kelfield, near Selby, after successfully going through the very risky first stage of his treatment.

He is due to return to Germany at the end of the month for the next stage of antibody treatment and his family is still working hard to boost the Jamie Inglis Appeal to raise the £250,000 to pay for the medical trial, which has not been funded by the NHS and is believed by oncologists to give the best chance of survival.

Yorkshire-based fitness company Lifestyle 247 want to help raise cash for the appeal with ‘Roller Rave’ – a series of Hallowe’en-inspired Spooks On Skates roller discos which was launched yesterday and will take place until November 4.

During the roller disco events, each skater will be encouraged to complete ten laps to raise money for Jamie’s appeal, while a percentage of ticket sales from each event will be donated to the charity.

On Hallowe’en itself, the proceeds from one entire session, after hall hire costs, will also be donated to the appeal. The company hopes to raise at least £1,000 for Jamie over the ten days.

Lifestyle 247 is bringing back Roller Rave as a twist on the roller discos and a way of getting youngsters active. The events will be held during the half-term holidays at various locations across Yorkshire, including York, Leeds, Knaresborough and Harrogate.

The minimum age for children taking part is seven and an adult must accompany all children under 12.

A spokesperson from Lifestyle 247 said: “We are delighted to be supporting Jamie’s appeal. He’s such a brave boy and we wanted to do all we could to help him get the treatment he needs.”

• A fundraising auction in memory of York boy Thomas Cammack will take place in The Quaker Wood pub, in Woodthorpe, York, on Friday, November 23, starting at 7.30pm. Money raised will go to the Candlelighters charity.
