KNAVESMIRE Primary School banished the ghost of last season’s finals defeat to be crowned winners of the York Primary CADE Trophy at Clifton Green.

Knavesmire were runners-up last year but went one better this time out as they won all four of their matches, scoring six goals and conceding none en route to claiming the trophy.

Knavesmire qualified for the tournament through regional competitions, and competed against Dunnington, Clifton with Rawcliffe, Ralph Butterfield and Clifton Green schools, with every team playing each other once.

Unfortunately for their rivals, Knavesmire were on sparkling form, storming to glory without conceding a goal. Captain Kieran Carter led the way, netting four goals for his team, with midfielder Joshua Hall scoring the other two.

The win means Knavesmire proceed to the North Yorkshire round of the English Schools’ Football Association competition in January along with runners-up Dunnington.

Coach Paul Bentley said: “We’re thrilled with our achievement. It’s a tremendous reward for all of the hard work the players have put in.

“The school is making excellent progress in competitive sport – so to win the York CADE trophy is great for the players and their parents.”
