Reprieve for threatened York pub

A PUB in York has been given a reprieve, after its owner shelved proposals to turn it into flats.

Phil Armitage, who owns the Old Ebor in Drake Street, at the foot of Nunnery Lane, had tabled a planning application to convert the pub, saying it had become unviable and was causing noise nuisance for residents in the upstairs flats.

But pub manager Paul Matson had vowed to fight the application, and Mr Armitage withdrew it today.

He said he was happy for the pub to continue as it was for the time being.
