Concern over pupils’ Facebook bullying
9:46am Thursday 25th October 2012 in News
CITY of York Council has expressed its concern at a cyber-bullying scandal that has seen some pupils excluded.
The council has condemned the Dirty Little Secrets pages on Facebook which aim to reveal salacious gossip about students at York schools.
Numerous York schools have taken action against the pages and one Millthorpe School pupil and four Manor CE Academy pupils are known to have been excluded for setting some of them up.
A council spokesman said: “The emergence of the Dirty Little Secrets pages on Facebook is a very worrying and unwelcome trend. Whilst schools have a responsibility for writing, reviewing and monitoring their own anti-bullying policies, they are supported by the City of York Anti Bullying Strategy Group. The council offers support for schools by providing training opportunities for staff. We also meet with staff both in primary and secondary schools regularly, to offer support and guidance, as appropriate”.
