Police complaints figures success

ALMOST 500 complaints were made against North Yorkshire Police in the past 12 months, a fall from the previous year.

Figures released today by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) show the complaints contained 915 allegations, and there were 61 appeals to the IPCC about North Yorkshire Police’s handling of complaints.

The appeals included 38 about the way the force dealt with a complaint investigation, 14 about complaints resolved locally, and nine about the force’s failure to record a complaint.

The figure has fallen from 2010/2011, when 525 complaints were recorded against the force. The IPCC completed 43 appeals during 2011/12, upholding nine (21 per cent), lower than the 38 per cent national result for England and Wales.

Steve Read, director of professional standards at North Yorkshire Police, said he was pleased that the rate of appeals against the force was significantly below the national average.

He said: “At 69 per cent, and for the seventh consecutive year, North Yorkshire Police has achieved the highest rate of local resolutions of any police force in the country by some margin.”

It's good news that complaints are coming down, what Mr Read fails to mention is the main reason for this is that a high number of them in the past were for officers turning up too late or not at all, a percentage of those complaints have been reduced because of the recent enforced changes to police shift patterns brought in by the Home Secretary.

The main reasons for the almost 70% local resolution of complaints is the practical nature of the population of our rural county, in that we are able to take on board very easily the levels the Police Federation and officers will go to to protect useless colleagues who have made very basic mistakes in the positions of great power they hold.

This is another case of fiddling the figures. They are classifying many complaints against the police as complaints regarding "direction and control", which are NOT recorded as complaints against the police and dealt with as such.

Let's face it, on the whole the Police do an excellent job. There's always a renegade minority.
I'm more concerned about these new PCC's who will seem to have authority over the Police.
I was under the impression these new jobs were to be held by independent people but reading about the candidates, it appears that job will be political as the named candidates also have the political party next to their names.
That being the case, we, in our household, will not be prepared to put ourselves out by going to vote.
Apart from which, we have no idea who these candidates are so how can we vote for the unknown?
So far as the Police are concerned, on the odd occasions we have needed to deal with them, we have had absolutely no complaints about anything. Would not like their job at all.

What would be interesting Pete. How many of the 500 complaints are from yourself. One statistic I would like to see, how many complaints you have made in total, and what percentage of them were substantiated.
So the home secretary changed North Yorkshire Polices shift Patterns. Are you for real?. They will of changed their shift patterns due to many reasons but not because the home secretary intervened. You make things up to add weight to your hatred of the boys n girls in blue.

One nearly three years ago.

The Government implemented the shift changes.

Luckily for me the only people carrying weapons were the police, looking at the situation where one of them mistook a white stick carried by a 60 year old blind man who'd suffered a stroke, for a sword carried by a Jananeze warrior recently and tazered him from behind, I thank god I wasn't carrying any form of implement required for construction that day as my yellow level or tape measure could quite easily have been taken for a light sabre.

Consider complaining ? Whats the point.

I wasn't aware you needed to be an expert on any public sevice to have an opinion on their performance.

Judging on my one serious encounter with the police my opinion of them is that certain elements whithin our force act without making checks, fail to communicate adequately with one another, fail to complete tasks that they incorrectly risk assesed and over resourced, put a persons health safety, wellbeing and reputation at risk then fail to rectify the situation, defend that person from a danger they have created and fail to appogise or admit to any wrongdoing.

About 200 friends, family and work colleagues are all aware of the incident and its effects, I recieved the full support of all of them in restoring my good name.

A good or for you simple illustration of my guilt of any offence what so ever despite a huge "pre-planned" police operation costing several thousand pounds which failed in a very simple objective would be.

Between five and seven police officers in three vehicles who had been stationed there for seven hours to the complete and utter bewilderment of an entire village left my address less than five minutes after I arrived home from work after what amounted to an incorrect summary of their presence and offering me a cup of tea.

I wasn't cautioned.

I wasn't interviewed.

I wasn't charged.

I wasn't arrested.

I did not require the sevices of any kind of legal professional.

I know who it was Bob and I know exactly how it came about, the fact was the police failed to make some very, very simple checks before acting.

Their actions were beyond parody, I "complain" about the effect those actions had on my wife, my children and myself. I "complain" the huge over-staffing of those actions forced me and my family to move house due to ill informed rumours, I believe to have been started by a police officer showing off on the day and threats against me resulting from those rumours.

I "complain" that no action what so ever was taken by the police to protect us from those threats.

I "complain" that I never received a single word of apology from the police despite the other agency involved doing so in writing, I therefore will continue to lampoon and inconvenience the entire force to the best of my ability until such time as one of them does so and believe me I'm doing quite well.
