Lord Mayor's chains stolen in East Yorkshire

THE Lord Mayor of Bridlington's civic chains have been stolen from his house.

Michael Charlesworth was away from home receiving hospital treatment, when a thief or thieves broke into his semi-detached home and stole the gold chains, valued at £15,000.

Police believe the offenders got in via an insecure rear window between 11am on Friday and 4.30pm on Sunday.

A laptop computer was stolen along with a safe containing the civic chains, Coun Charlesworth's late wife's engagement and wedding rings and a Salvation Army Charity box.

Detectives believe the suspect/s left via the kitchen door, which had a key left in the inside lock.

Humberside Police say they are keen to find the "unique, precious and sentimental items" and ask anyone with information to phone 101, quoting reference 1937270, or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
