STAFF at Bettys in York are celebrating the completion of improvements to the Cafe Tea Rooms in St Helen’s Square.

The cafe said the redesign is intended to "invoke the spirit of the 1930s style Belmont Room" on the first floor of the Tea Rooms.

Carol Hanson, the manager of Bettys, said: “We are all absolutely delighted with the results of our exciting new redesign and improvements which have been part of a continuing programme of investment to improve the experience and environment of Bettys for both customers and staff. There is more flexibility of seating which means we can create more tables for two.

"One customer has been coming to Bettys since he was three and when we’d first opened. He’s now in his 80s and says he loves the new look.”

The redesign includes new lighting, marble tables and banquette seating crafted by Peter Thompson of York.

The carpets feature a design inspired by the almonds and cherries decorations on the cafe's fruitcake.
