NANCY Kerr, the 2015 BBC Radio Two Folk Singer of the Year, leads her Sweet Visitor Band at Selby Town Hall on February 13.

In the line-up of folk luminaries at 8pm will be Nancy's duo partner James Fagan, from Cara Dillon's band and The James Bros; The Albion Band’s Tom Wright; Rowan Rheingans, from Lady Maisery, and Tim Yates, the bass player in York’s very own Blackbeard’s Tea Party.

Nancy, fine fiddle player and six-time BBC Folk Award winner, will be focusing on material from her long-awaited solo debut, Sweet Visitor, released in July 2014 with its contemporary narratives about love and conflict, migration, hardship and jubilation, and the tensions between rural and urban life.

She rose to prominence in a duo with fellow fiddler Eliza Carthy before teaming up with Australian bouzouki player James Fagan, going on to release six albums to date. In 2013, Nancy joined Fay Hield's groundbreaking supergroup The Full English, alongside the likes of Seth Lakeman, Martin Simpson and Sam Sweeney.

Last year, she was a pivotal songwriter in the groundbreaking composition project The Elizabethan Session and performed in a new trio with guitarist Martin Simpson and accordion player Andy Cutting.

“Nancy is seated firmly at folk’s top table right now,” says Chris Jones, Selby Town Council's arts officer. “After years of superb performances in duos, trios and bands, it’s fantastic to see her really coming into her own as a magnificent songwriter and frontwoman, not to mention a brilliant fiddle player and exquisite singer. With a superb backing band, this looks set to be a really fantastic evening.”

Tickets cost £15 on 01757 708449 or at selbytownhall.co.uk or £17 on the door from 7.30pm.
