FUNDING is available for Bike Libraries to be set up in North Yorkshire to help give children access to a bicycle as part of the legacy of the Tour de France.
Not-for-profit organisations that want to set up a Yorkshire Bank Bike Library can now benefit from the third round of funding released by a partnership of Welcome to Yorkshire, Yorkshire Bank and local authorities.
Since the opening of the first Yorkshire Bank Bike Library last June, more than 2,000 unwanted bikes have been donated and 21 bicycle libraries are now open.
Project bosses are especially keen for those wanting to set up their own Bike Libraries in North, South and East Yorkshire to apply for funding.
The project can offer marketing and PR support and has a network of donation stations to help libraries source bikes.
Helen Page, from Yorkshire Bank, said: “The first two rounds of funding have enabled thousands of children to discover the excitement and freedom of riding a bike.
“As the Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries expand further we’re very keen to support the set-up of more bike libraries, enabling more children to access bikes across the county."

Applicants should visit www.bikelibraries.co.uk/enterprise-fund and apply by March 4.
