POLICE are investigating reports of an alleged sexual assault in a York village.
A wooded area close to the New Earswick Link Road and next to the river Foss has been cordoned off this morning.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "We are investigating a report of a sexual assault which was reported at 4.47am today.
"The incident took place near the bridge on New Earswick Link Road between 9.30pm and 10pm last night.
"The investigation is in the very early stages and officers are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident. The victim is receiving support from specially trained officers while the investigation continues."
