One man has been arrested in connection with a recent late night tyre-slashing spree.
Officers arrested the local man in connection with the incident, which happened in Clifton last week.
The Press told how residents in Westminster Road, Cromer Street and Falsgrave Crescent woke up on Friday to find the tyres had been slashed on dozens of their cars.
Police are appealing for more information as they continue with their investigation.
They believe members of the community may hold the key to them solving the crimes.
Sergeant Shaun Page, of the Clifton safer neighbourhoods team, which is carrying out the investigation into the incident, said: "Someone will know who did this. Whoever is responsible will have told people about the crimes they have committed.
"The police are trying to do as much as they can, but we need the support of the community and we believe that someone out there has that vital piece of information."
He urged anyone with any information about the incident to contact an officer from the safer neighbourhoods team.
Labour ward councillor Ken King has also called on residents to shop the tyre-slashers.
He said: "It's downright disgraceful that yobs can go around causing damage like this to people's vehicles. It's not just the costs, it's time consuming, and I hope that the police do catch the people responsible."
He said: "I will be doing everything I can to help the police with this.
"I hope the residents of Clifton help the police to bring these individuals to the courts."
As part of the operation to catch those responsible, a mobile police station was set up on Clifton Green for members of the public to come along with information.
Initially reports suggested about 15 vehicles had had their tyres slashed, but police believe it could have been more.
In November 2006, yobs damaged about 90 cars in the area, leaving them with slashed tyres, smashed windows and broken mirrors.
Residents organised public meetings to call for action.
Anyone with any information about the tyre-slashings is urged to phone a member of the Clifton Safer Neighbourhoods Team on 0845 60 60 247.
