...or was it the car that collided with the bike. Really York Press, this is very biased journalism. How about. A collision between a bike and car...?

Newtons third law of motion....
"Action and reaction are both equal and opposite"
That is indeed a sod of a bit of road out side the Black Bull. No cycle lane, thin and cars still decelerating down from 40mph.

Ha biased or maybe telling the story that she hit a car. Maybe the press talked to a witness and saw the women go through a red light like most the cyclists and hit a car.

she'd have been much safer cycling on the path. Which is where "all" cyclist ride. But then doesnt that mean the car was on the path?
Where's Mike Usherwood when you need these things explaining

I'd say more judgemental and rightly so!

From the text of the article we don't know that who hit what. If, for example, the bike was moving and the car stationary at the moment of impact, then the bike definitely collided with the car.
In any case, because the first clause in the sentence is about the cyclist, her bike being the subject of the second clause and the car the predicate makes logical sense. No doubt if the driver had been hurt, the sentence would have read 'A driver was taken to hospital after his car collided with a bike'.

Next thing you'll be saying the cyclist deserved it because they don't pay road tax!
I expect the car side-swiped the bike. Do you really think the type of cyclist who jumps red lights would actually cycle ON THE ROAD along the Hull Road??
