A BEER festival is being held this Saturday in Sutton-upon-Derwent, near York.

Woodhouse Grange Cricket Club and the Sutton Village Hall committee have teamed up to host the event in the hall, following the success of last year's inaugural festival.

There will be a dozen beers as well as ciders, wines and sot drinks. Most beers are from Yorkshire breweries, including The Hop Studio in nearby Elvington, Brass Castle in Malton and Half Moon in Ellerton. Selby's Brown Cow Brewery has produced the specially-brewed Woodhouse Grange Ale.

Live Six Nations rugby will be shown on a big screen in the hall and live music will follow from Alec Robinson, who plays a repertoire inspired by Jools Holland. Pie and peas will also be on offer.

Village Hall chairman John Newlove said: "Last year's first festival was a great success, both for locals and real ale enthusiasts, and it made a valuable contribution to village hall and cricket club funds. We are hoping that 2014 will be even bigger and better and will be another top day and night out."

The event is from 1pm until late. Tickets cost £10, including a programme, glass, first pint and pie and peas. Pay on the door or phone John Newlove on 01904 608524 or Martin Smith on 07977 459755 to book in advance.
