BEER enthusiasts in York are launching their annual six-week pub campaign this evening, ahead of the city's spectacular beer festival.

The York branch of the Campaign for Real Ale runs its ale trail every summer, to promote the September festival on Knavesmire.

People are encouraged to pick up a leaflet from participating pubs. There are festival discounts depending how many venues you visit.

Trail cards to be returned is August 31.
