IF you have visited York Brewery or any of its pubs in the past few weeks, you may have seen posters promoting a new book launch.

Congratulations are due to Ignazio Cabras, a York-based economist who has done much to promote beer and pubs locally and internationally in recent years.

Dr Cabras has previously demonstrated the important broad socio-economic benefits that village pubs bring to their communities, such as by enabling community projects, supporting small businesses, providing jobs and coordinating fundraising ventures.

He has also been a key figure in organising York’s beer census events in 2012, 2014 and 2016, promoting York’s brewers and pubs.

Now he has co-authored Brewing, Beer and Pubs: A Global Perspective, which was launched last night at York Brewery. Academics and experts from around the world have contributed chapters, covering the history of beer and brewing, Britain's controversial tied pub system, alcohol tax, the importance of village pubs, and a host of other issues.
