ARE you looking for something different at this year's York Beer & Cider Festival? Something that will stand out from the crowd and take you by surprise?

Then here you go.... Here are

York Press:

14) Snowball by Waen is a chocolate, vanilla and coconut stout. It was on last year and was phenomenal. Not to be missed!

_______

York Press:

13) Anyone for tea? - High Tea by Rooster's is a Jasmine Green Tea IPA, brewed in collaboration with Taylors of Harrogate.

_______

York Press:

12) Raspberry Red by Bad Seed and North Riding - this twist on a classic English red ale was fermented on fresh raspberries. This will be its debut.

_______

York Press:

11) Kaffir by Box Social, is a lime leaf session IPA. Box Social are one of the youngest breweries at this year's festival, and they have also brought their India Brown Ale.

_______

York Press:

10 & 9) Black Forest by Brass Castle uses cocoa powder and cherries to great effect. Cherry Choc Stout by Bridgehouse sounds similar, and could make for a fun comparison.

_______

York Press:

8 & 7) Lavender Blonde by Riverhead is a pale session beer brewed with culinary lavender. If you enjoy that, head back to the York Brewery bar and see how it compares with their Taste of Purple, which is brewed in the same vein, with dried lavender flowers.

_______

York Press:

6) Derby Day by Ilkley is a mint stout, described on the beer list as an "unusual and extraordinary beer". It's not to be taken lightly, at seven per cent.

_______

York Press:

5 & 4) Mostly Ghostly is the result of a team-up between York Brewery and The Chilli Jam Man. A ghost chilli infusion was added to Centurion's Ghost to make for York's hottest ever beer. If you try and enjoy that, then look out also for Off Kilter Porter by Offbeat Brewery, a porter with chilli and pepper added.

_______

York Press: Phil Saltonstall of the Brass Castle Brewery, Pocklington, with his Heretic beer which has a mystery ingredient

3) Heretic by Brass Castle was here as a mystery brew three years ago, when drinkers were invited to try to identify the surprise ingredient. There's no mystique this time - it's saffron. The brewers say it adds hay and honey notes to the Belgian-style ale.

_______

York Press:

2) Life's A Beach by Brass Castle and North Riding - This pineaple and coconut wheat beer is like a pina colada. It sounds ludicrous, but works brilliantly.

_______

York Press:

1) Bad Mo Faux by BAD Co - This is described as a mojito pale ale, and includes lime and a gentle, fresh minty aftertaste. Brewer Paul Holden-Ridgway has won the top award here at Knavesmire at two of the last three festivals, and this the most experimental of the ten beers he will have on this time.

Cheers!
