A festival which last year raised enough money to revamp a community centre is returning to help provide kit for schoolchildren.

The Monk Fryston and Hillam Beer Festival, near Selby, will be held over Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13 following 2013's success in raising more than £2,000 to carry out some much needed refurbishments.

The money helped the organisers apply for a grant to secure funding and extend the Monk Fryston community centre, and continue running their before and after school club for children.

Ray Newton, chairman of the Monk Fryston and Hillam Community Association said: “The funds generated at the 2013 Beer Fest - of almost £2,000 - really made a big difference and will ensure a lasting legacy for the villages and residents of Monk Fryston and Hillam."

More than 20 beers and ales have been sourced from Yorkshire breweries, including the The Brown Cow Brewery in Selby, Old Mill Brewery in Snaith, and The Revolutions Brewing Company in Castleford.

This year's festival is expected to top 2013's attendance of 600 and raise enough money for new computers and iPads for children at Monk Fryston Primary School.

Jonathan Gardner, chair of the Beer Festival and PTA member, added: “This is an opportunity for us to celebrate our great hoppy heritage, while coming together to support the community. We had some amazing feedback from our first time around, and it’s great to see that we all fancy another."

Tickets are available from Monk Fryston Primary School, Monk Fryston post office and The Crown Inn pub.

Tickets cost £5 and include a commemorative beer glass, tasting notes and a voucher for your first drink.
